Keeping busy, being engaged

Helping people with dementia to remain physically and socially active has a positive effect on their happiness and contentment. All our Homes have Activity Co-ordinators whose job it is to make each day worthwhile and fulfilled. Their role is to provide a variety of one to one or group activities that are tailored to fit in with the strengths and interests of each person.

Many of our Homes have created areas of special interest around the Home which people with dementia can enjoy. These areas often feature items from the past that people with short term memory problems can relate to. At Courtland Lodge in Watford for example, there is a 1945 room, where the room is decorated with memorabilia from the 1940s, and features magazines and books from that period which people can pick up and read. These areas are extremely popular with residents, who often choose to spend their day in a familiar and comfortable environment.

We do not have visiting times - providing that other peoples privacy is respected then we welcome family and friends at any time. We also encourage families and friends to enjoy a meal with us, and participate in activities or outings.
