Welcome to Elmhurst, Bishop's Stortford

Elmhurst opened in Bishops Stortford back in 1998. Purpose built for older people, the home has 60 single bedrooms, divided into four self-contained units. Each unit has a lounge, dining room, kitchenette, and 15 bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities, telephone and television points. One of the units gives care to those living with dementia. There are also two rooms used for short-stay breaks.

Elmhurst is equipped to very high standards and designed to make day-to-day living easier, particularly through our wheelchair accessbility. The home features an attractive enclosed garden with raised flower beds.

Our catering staff provide nutritious meals and cater for special diets. There is always a choice of dishes, and residents are involved in designing menus.

Staff and residents organise a wide range of activities, all designed to suit the abilities and interests of each individual. We also have a large activities room which is put to good use.

Visitors are always welcome and relatives are encouraged to get involved in care if they wish. Small pets are also welcome in the home by prior arrangement.

Visiting services:

  • Hairdessing – twice a week in our fully-equipped salon
  • Salvation Army visit and chat once a month
  • Optician’s visit – once a year
  • Hearing specialist – regular visits

There is a C of E church service once a week and Holy Communion is offered in the home monthly.

If you are interested in any of the services please feel free to ring the home directly. There is a Service Request form available to download in the “Families” section of this site.

If you are specifically interested in short breaks, they are booked via Health and Community Services. Please speak to your social worker or phone the call centre on 01438 737400
