Statement Of Purpose
'At the beginning of the month I was desperately seeking a residential Care Home for my elderly mother who was no longer capable of remaining in her own house and living independently. My mother, who had not eaten for over a week when we arrived at the home, now looks well-fed, clean and has been given a new enthusiasm for life. She still has some down moments at leaving her former life, but the schedule of activities led her to say that the day passes really quickly now! Our entire family have been made to feel very welcome at Freeman House and I have nothing but praise for the high standards of care and cleanliness which we see on our frequent visits to my mother. So to sum up, I would just like to say thank you to everyone concerned!'
Mrs M, Letchworth
Opened in the 1960s and recently refurbished, Freeman House in Letchworth is a residential care home for 48 older people. We pride ourselves on our welcoming atmosphere.
Built on three floors, the home has large bright bedrooms, lounges, fully equipped kitchens and is surrounded by pleasant enclosed gardens. All bedrooms are singles and have telephones and TV sockets. One of the rooms is used for short breaks.
Our modern kitchen provides hot, nutritious meals every day and can cater for special dietary needs by arrangement. There is always a choice of dishes, and residents are involved in drawing up the menu. A couple of days each week, we provide food for two community day centres.
We offer an excellent programme of weekly activities, with regular visits from entertainers, excursions to the local countryside, public events throughout the summer months, as well as special celebrations at Christmas, Easter and birthdays.
Services by appointment:
- Two hairdressers - offering appointments three days a week
- Optician

There is a multi-faith church service held monthly by the vicar of St Paul's. Visitors are always welcome.
If you are interested in any of the services please feel free to ring the home directly. There is a Service Request form available to download in the ‘Families' section of this site.
