Human Resources Strategy

Recruitment

Caring for and understanding the needs of older people is challenging but rewarding work. At Quantum Care, we believe that all of our staff are special people.

The size of our company means that we are frequently looking to employ Carers, Catering and Housekeeping staff across the whole of Hertfordshire and part of Essex.

It is not just the Care Workers who are important, but every individual that comes into contact with our residents, perhaps through preparing meals, cleaning and doing laundry or indeed providing any service that ultimately supports the care of those residents.

We aim to recruit people with commitment and people who care. The employees in our Homes need to have patience, empathy and a desire to create and maintain a supportive and hospitable environment.

We are an equal opportunities employer who welcomes applications from all. We often recruit people with no experience of caring for older people. We can and do train our Care Workers to give them the skills that they need in ways that assist their learning. For us it is more about recruiting the people that want to do the work and who will care about our residents.

Staff are only employed following the completion of an application form, attending an interview at which point they will visit their prospective the place of work, thorough reference checks and verification that they are physically fit to do the job. They all undergo an enhanced police check from the Criminal Records Bureau.

We offer competitive rates of pay with enhancements at weekends and several other benefits. We provide a pleasant and supportive working environment.

Various shift patterns are available and our staff receive holiday pay, sick pay (after a qualifying period) and the chance to work in a thoroughly rewarding environment.

If you are interested in joining us please visit our recruitment website to see all the jobs currently available and/or to register with us so that you are notified of any future job opportunities.

Staff Learning & Development

Quantum Care considers its staff to be its most important asset and key to its primary objective to provide consistently high quality care for its residents.

Staff training and development is essential to the continuous improvement of our services.

On joining the company, all staff have a detailed induction that introduces them to Quantum Care. They are given ongoing support for as long as it takes for them to be fully competent and confident at what they do. The introduction period lasts formally for a period of six months, but there is a commitment to support and develop all employees throughout their career with the company.

All staff are required to undertake basic skills training as part of their induction and will be provided with appropriate ongoing training and development in order to:

  1. Comply with current legislation and to ensure the health and well being of residents and staff.
  2. Ensure that employees consistently possess the skills and competencies required to enable the objectives in the business plan to be met.
  3. Provide employees with opportunities for personal development within the scope of their job and job potential.

The staff member and Line Manager through regular review discussions and observation in the workplace jointly agree individual training and development needs.

Training activities are provided and updated not just as regulatory standards require, but also to ensure that employees have the ongoing skills and competencies required to carry out their job function.

Personal development opportunities are freely discussed and agreed between the employee and Line Manager and are supported, wherever possible, once the core training requirements for the company and individual Homes have been met.

Employees are encouraged, where appropriate, to undertake relevant National Vocational Qualifications or other qualifications in the core subject of their job function.

Review Discussions

Regular discussion between an employee and their Line Manager is a key element in the continuous improvement of our service to residents.

Review meetings are opportunities for both parties to discuss day to day issues, agree actions and future training and development needs.

The meetings are for the benefit of both parties and are intended to be two way, positive and open discussions. Review meetings take place on a regular basis and are recorded in order to allow follow-up actions to take place and improvements to be effected.

Team or group meetings are part of the company culture and provide opportunities for broader discussions.

Review meetings and team meetings are also used to discuss and evaluate any training and development activities that have taken place.

In Summary

We strive to ensure that all of our staff have the opportunity to develop. We aim to provide the highest possible standards of care and in so doing must recruit, retain and train a highly skilled and committed workforce.

We review all Human Resources practices on a regular basis and seek to provide our management teams with coaching, communication and training skills. In this way learning becomes part of our culture.

Our employees demonstrate the highest level of commitment every day and our standards are high. We are committed to continuing to develop our workforce to ensure that we consistently maintain those standards.
