On the 5th June 2010 Phil Swanston began the massive challenge of cycling 5,000 miles along the coastline of mainland Britain in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. His mother, who is a resident at Richard Cox House in Royston was diagnosed with dementia over 6 years ago, since then Phil has had first hand experience of the effect dementia has on it’s victims, their families and carers.Phil hopes to raise in excess of £20,000 over the course of his journey which will involve covering an average of 65 miles per day for three months, solo and unsupported. The money raised will go towards giving support to sufferers and their carers, and the search for a cure.
