Deputy Mayor Opens Best Friends Cafe 13 November 2009
Mountbatten Lodge
Mountbatten Lodge in Hemel Hempstead held a ceremony on Saturday 7th November to celebrate the opening of their Best Friends Café. Deputy Mayor Roger Taylor kindly agreed to open the café, and cut a ribbon to mark the opening. After the ceremony, he spoke to both residents and staff and was very busy handing out the cakes and helping with the raffle. The Cafe is one of several now open in Quantum Care Homes, and is designed for residents and their families who may not otherwise be able to travel, to have tea, coffee and home made cakes in a real cafe environment. The cafes have been developed as part of the Quantum Care dementia training programmes which encourage staff to find ways of improving the well-being of people with dementia.Councillor Taylor wrote a letter to Mountbatten Lodge after the event. He said “Once in a while and then quite unexpectedly ones life is touched by an event in a way which you would never expect. Saturday was one of those days which became full of memories Sue and I will treasure deeply. So much so that we could not let the occasion pass without expressing our grateful thanks to everybody at Mountbatten Lodge….from the first moment of welcome the warmth and friendship so graciously extended to us was fantastic… the Best Friends Café is a most appropriate name for what I hope will blossom into a well-used and much appreciated rendezvous for residents and visitors alike”
