Star Ratings

CQC inspections are based on the ‘National Minimum Standards’ which set out the core requirements that apply to all care services. These standards are grouped into seven categories or outcome areas, for care.

Quality rating, represented by a number of stars, is awarded to services following an inspection, to indicate the overall quality of the service provided. CQC ratings 3 stars means ‘excellent’, 2 stars means ‘good’, 1 star means ‘adequate’ and no stars means ‘poor’ (or it may mean that a service has not yet been rated).

Quantum Care aims to provide high quality care in all of our services and we are committed to continually improving the care provided to our service users and their families. However, occasionally a service may be awarded a one star rating or no stars at all and it is important to understand what this means. A rating of one star, ‘adequate’, means that the service has met the requirements of the National Minimum Standards and provides a satisfactory level of care.

If a service has no stars it may mean that the service has not yet been given a published rating. If a service does have a published rating of no stars this does not mean the service will have to close. We will be working hard to improve services as quickly as possible. A one or no star service may have some outcome areas that are rated ‘good’ or even ‘excellent’. This will be made clear in the inspection report. If you have any concerns about the inspection report or star rating of your service please speak to the Home or Regional manager.
