Welcome to Trefoil House

Quantum Care is delighted to announce the commencement of the next phase of our Care Home Development Strategy. Work has commenced in Birdsfoot Lane, Luton on a brand new 70 bedded Care Home. The Home will provide Residential and Specialist Dementia Care for older people, and will be the first home in Bedfordshire for Quantum Care.

The home will have the latest design and equipment to care for people with physical disabilities as well as those with dementia. It has been specially commissioned to enable people to live as independently as possible with support where needed. Each spacious bedroom will be fully furnished, and will include en-suite shower facilities. Communal areas have been designed to enable people to have the choice to socialise, or find a quiet space for personal reflection.

This home will feature our brand new Quantum Care Plaza, incorporating a Best Friends Café (Trademark pending), hairdresser, mini shop and recreation lounge. These facilities will be open to both residents and their families and friends.

Quantum Care is committed to environmental sustainability and this building incorporates an alternative energy supply which will reduce its carbon footprint and energy costs.

Luton Development update 19th March 2010

The build is progressing very well, with the Contractor taking full advantage of the recent break in the weather to advance the programme significantly. Phase A timber frame is complete, 1st fix M&E (wiring and plumbing) is nearing completion and the external facing brickwork is due to start Monday22nd March. One bedroom and en-suite have been fitted out to agree the layout of all fixtures and fittings and this has been signed of by the Quantum Care Ltd Team. Phase B is following closely behind, with timber frame due for completion 29 March 2010.

Overall, the build is approximately 4 weeks ahead of programme which, given the extreme weather this winter, is a creditable achievement. The site was visited earlier this week by Tony Keen, Chair of the Development Sub-Committee, who was very pleased with progress.

All drawings and specifications have now been agreed, including an upgraded lighting system, remodelled reception area including Best Friends Cafe and Hairdressing Salon, redesigned en-suite showers and more mature landscaping.

We are all very pleased with how the development is progressing, and very excited about the prospect of being able to take occupancy of the building earlier than expected.

Development Update - June 2010

The building is now water-tight and the external brickwork and roof coverings are nearing completion. Internally, 1st fix joinery, mechanical and electrical works are complete, with 2nd fix following on in both Phases. Most rooms are now formed and plaster boarded, giving visitors a sense of the excellent space provided and the layout of the bedrooms. All Client Schedules have been agreed and decoration has started in some areas. Overall, the build is still 4 weeks ahead of programme, and it is expected that this will be maintained through to Practical Completion. The Marketing Suite is expected to be completed and fitted out in August and access granted to enable staff and visitor access from this point. We are very pleased with the level of progress and excited about the prospect of being able to take occupancy of the building earlier than expected.

Stone Unveiling Ceremony

On Tuesday 11th May, His Worship The Mayor, Councillor Riaz unveiled a stone to commemorate the first Quantum Care Home for older people to be developed in both Luton and Bedfordshire. The ceremony was attended by the Mayor, as well as children from Warden Hill Infant and Junior Schools and representatives of Luton Borough Council. The mayor unveiled the stone, accompanied by the children from both schools, and the Chair and Chief Executive of Quantum Care. After the ceremony, there was a delicious buffet provided by the Quantum Care Support Services Team, and then finally a chance to look at the plans and photos of the development so far. It was a great morning, which was enjoyed by all, despite the very chilly weather.

Home is Named by Local Pupil

We are pleased to announce that the name for our new Home is Trefoil House. Pupils from the Warden Hill Junior School adjacent the site were invited to take part in a competition to name the new Home. They were asked to create a name which would link into the local community and its history. The winning name was Trefoil House, named after the yellow flower Birds Foot Trefoil, which gives its name to Birdsfoot Lane. The winner will receive a £20 book voucher, which will be presented by Wanda Spooner, Director, in a celebration assembly at the school. The winner will also take part in the official opening ceremony at the Home in the Autumn.
