There has been a Vesta Lodge for older people on the site at the top of Watling View in St. Albans for over 40 years. The present home was built in 1997 and accommodates 61 residents. It is surrounded by landscaped gardens which are used and enjoyed by many of the residents and their families during the good weather. Also very close to the home is a parade of shops which supplies most necessities.
The home is arranged in four units each of which has a dining room, lounge and a small kitchen. There are also assisted bathrooms, shower rooms, and additional toilets. Two of the units are dedicated to caring for people living with dementia.
Each resident has their own furnished bedroom with en suite facilities, a telephone, a TV socket and call bell points. Two bedrooms are used for people wanting a short breaks.
The home has a "Best Friends" café which opens up to 5 days a week. Relatives and friends can come to the café with residents and enjoy their visit with a selection of drinks and cakes available.
Two hairdressers visit the home offering a choice. They have use of our fully equipped salon. A men's barber visits monthly. Essential services such as optician, dentist and chiropodist call at the home as required. A trolley shop goes to all the units daily and offers lots of essentials. Newspapers can be delivered by the local newsagent.
A Christian Ecumenical Service is held monthly, as well as an Anglican Communion service. There is also a Catholic Church close to Home for those who wish to attend Mass. (Catholic priest will visit if requested).
The home plans to open a new day centre in October 2008 for up to 10 elderly people with physical disabilities. The day centre is being refurbished in preparation.
