The Anson Court day centre in Welwyn Garden City is a friendly and social group. Members chat with one another and form good friendships, supported by the inclusive structure of the activities which focus on bringing people together to create a close, family feel. Each day is planned to suit the members attending and then tailored to fit their preference on the day. Favourites like the morning crossword appear regularly with other activities including food tasting and arts and crafts also making an appearance. The home’s two gardens are also easily accessible for members, whether they simply wish to enjoy the outdoors or try their hand at a gardening activity. Seated exercise and memory games are incorporated into the group’s activities to support health and well-being and to assist those living with dementia.
The specialist care team are trained to support a wide range of dementia and physical needs and always work to ensure that those with any difficulties communicating or participating in certain activities are included. More personal care services such as bathing and laundry can be provided in the day centre for those who need extra assistance, often taking the pressure off home carers who may struggle with the facilities at home.
The home’s chef cooks a two-course lunch for members, ensuring that their nutritional needs are met while external services such as hairdressing and chiropody can be arranged through the day centre, allowing members to access these services from within a familiar environment.
The Anson Court care home, which the day centre is based in, is Quantum Care’s newest building, opened in November 2017 to replace the existing service at Hyde Valley House. The new home, also based in Welwyn Garden City, provides the very latest in care facilities to all members and home residents as well as much more space and a beautiful new home environment.
