Fosse House is one of our two day centres in St Albans. While all of our staff receive specialist dementia training, the team at Fosse House predominantly take on members with higher needs dementia and structure their activities to suit the interests and capacity of each individual. This can vary from projects such as decorating the day centre with a display of Poppies or Forget Me Nots to simpler pursuits like food tasting or sensory sessions. Working well with the home they’re based in, the day centre team often have residents visiting and join with the home to enjoy performances from entertainers brought in, offering greater opportunities for engagement to their members. On several occasions, residents on a respite stay in the home have, upon leaving, joined the day centre due to the impression made during their stay.
Day centre members are welcome to enjoy Fosse House’s new Wildlife Garden which hosts a wide range of local animals as they stop by or they can take part in outdoor activities or simply relax in the seating areas. The team at the day centre focus on every member’s individual needs and personality to make sure that the care they deliver is person centred. They do this while maintaining a lively, friendly atmosphere within the centre which helps to stimulate their members regardless of capacity. In addition, they are more than happy to share their knowledge and experience with friends and family members caring for the members at home and so further support them in looking after their loved one. New members are always welcome as the centre is flexible around when and for how long they attend. All members have their needs assessed and a care plan put in place to ensure that those needs are understood and met by all who work in the day centre. Other services such as hairdressing, bathing and chiropody are available within the centre which allows members’ personal care to be provided from within a familiar environment.
