One of two Quantum Care day centres in St Albans, Vesta Lodge predominantly caters for members with greater mobility needs. The open space of their centre as well as the easy access to outside make this the ideal day centre for older people relying on wheelchairs or walking aids.
The team structure their activities to suit the abilities of their members with seated exercises, quizzes and crafts projects being popular options. Days at Vesta Lodge day centre begin with a cup of tea and toast while members and staff chat and decide what they would like to do; stick with the activity plan or try something else which allows members to have more control over their days. Vesta Lodge offers easy access to the garden area for day centre members, ensuring that regardless of mobility level, everyone has the option to get outside and enjoy the nice weather during summer. When indoors, members are never short of something to do as staff always work to support them in keeping up any hobbies they may have and offering plenty of chance to take up new ones.
The aim of the Vesta Lodge day centre is to encourage and help older people to remain independent, happy and healthy and to assist home-carers who also work towards this. As such, a hot meal is made for every member, every day by Vesta Lodge’s professional chef and catering team, taking into account the nutritional needs of members while a range of personal care services are available at the day centre. These include bathing, laundry and hairdressing, all provided within a familiar and comfortable environment. This can help to support older people, particularly those with mobility issues, struggling to do this themselves and to take the pressure off home-carers who don’t have the facilities at home.
