CELEBRATION FOR NEVETTS CARE HOME IN BUNTINGFORD

A Buntingford care home was recently graded ‘Good’ in all areas following its latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection. The report, released on 18th July followed an inspection two weeks previous, during which inspectors noted that all necessary standards were being met. All five categories inspected were rated as Good. Categories inspected and reported on are: Safety, Effectiveness, Caring, Responsiveness and Being well-led. Nevetts is a small home in Bowling Green Lane, Buntingford that offers care and support for up to 41 older people with a range of care requirements, from those with physical health needs to those living with dementia. It prides itself on being a small homely environment with emphasise on family values. As well as providing high quality care including caring for those living with dementia, the home also offers respite stays for those still living in the community providing a much needed break for loved ones and carers. During the inspection the CQC inspector spoke with residents and staff including one relative and was satisfied with all responses that have been included in the published report. Home Manager, Blessing Gurure commented: “I am delighted that Nevetts has been recognised for the quality of care that is being delivered on a daily basis. I am proud of the staff; they are passionate about caring for our residents just as they would if it was their own family. We are one big family at Nevetts and I am proud to be leading the team here” “We are always pro-active when it comes to looking for new ways to improve the lives of our residents and recently we embarked on introducing Namaste care. A number of staff have completed a Namaste Care training course to allow us to offer this relaxation therapy to our residents. Namaste care can enhance the quality of life for all our residents and especially those living with advanced dementia or terminal illness. The therapy incorporates stimulation of the five senses (touch, hearing, sight, smell, taste). A multi-sensory environment is created with the use of music, colour, and therapeutic touch (light massage). Aromatherapy oils and food treats are also used to stimulate the senses of smell and taste. This is a really exciting project for the Nevetts team. We have recorded the positive impact it is having on our residents already.” Nevetts is one of the smallest care homes from a group of 26 homes managed by not for profit care provider Quantum Care. In July this year Quantum Care was rated 2nd best care provider in England by healthcare research specialists Laing & Buisson. Some comments extracted from the report: Inspectors wrote; Throughout the course of the inspection we noted that there was a calm atmosphere in all units in the home and that people received their care and support when they needed it and wanted it. Call bells were answered in a timely manner and staff went about their duties in a calm and organised way. People had plenty of freedom about where they could go in the home and were seen moving down from the first floor to the ground floor which was encouraged, many people enjoyed the summer’s day in the garden. Throughout the day we noted there was good communication between staff and the people who used the service and they offered people choices. This included, in some cases, showing a person two plated meals to help them make a choice of what they wanted to eat. People and their relatives told us that staff were kind and caring and we noted that people were relaxed in the company of staff. One relative said, “They are very kind and caring, we had a choice of home but choose this one and it’s worked out really well. I like it here, I know everybody, they have time for [person].” They went on to say, “There are more mature staff here which I think helps with the older residents such as my[relative], I think they can relate better.” All staff were positive about the manager. One staff member said, “[Manager] is approachable, we are led by example.” Staff told us that having a manager who supported them when they needed it and helped in the delivery of care had made such a positive difference to them.
