Ensuring Older People Have Their Say

Ensuring Older People Have Their Say

Today Pinewood Lodge Day Service in South Oxhey were really pleased to welcome Councillors Stephen Cox and Joan King to a meet and greet session with Day Service members. The session was organised by the Centre to ensure their members have the opportunity to meet their local Councillors and air their views about life as an older person living in the local community. The meet and greet was a huge success. The members were really pleased to be able to meet the Councillors face to face and talk about issues that concern them. Many commented that as older people, it is not always easy to be heard, so having the opportunity to make a contribution to their local community had been extremely important.

After much-needed refreshments, the members asked Councillors Cox and King to perform a special tree planting ceremony on their behalf. Following the very sad loss of one of their friends, they had decided to mark her passing by planting a magnolia tree in the grounds. Both Councillors were extremely happy to help out, and carried out the task as members looked on. The day ended with a promise to return to the Day Service again in the very near future.
