Ernest with his Award

Today Hertsmere MP Oliver Dowden CBE came to Heath House in Bushey to present Ernest Searling with his medal in recognition of being appointed to the rank of Chevalier in the French Ordre national de la Legion d’honneur. This honour was awarded by the President of France in recognition of Ernie’s service as a Royal Marine during the second world war. The accompanying letter, sent by the French Ambassador in London said “As we contemplate this Europe of peace, we must never forget the heroes like you who came from Britain and the Commonwealth to begin the liberation of Europe by liberating France. We owe our freedom and security to your dedication, because you were ready to risk your life”. MP Oliver Dowden CBE said “It was a great pleasure and honour to present Ernest with his award. It was amazing to hear his stories and this medal is richly deserved. We were all really proud of him today. It was really great to meet all the residents at the home and see first-hand the wonderful care given by Heath House and Quantum Care” Ernest said of the day “it was a marvellous occasion. I am very proud and honoured to have been given this award but I also feel very humble. I was ever so pleased to meet the MP and I though he was a thoroughly nice gentleman. I want to say thank you to everybody at Heath House for a lovely day and for looking after me so well” Maria Ball said “It was fantastic to have been part of Ernie’s presentation today. At Quantum Care we are privileged to be able to meet and work with people like Ernie who have given so much for their country. His honour is richly deserved and we are so proud of him”
