On Friday 6th May, Quantum Care was delighted to have Sarah Pickup of Hertfordshire County Council present the Grand Champion of Dementia Care Award at its fifth Annual Care Awards ceremony. Sarah, who is the Director of Health and Community Services for Hertfordshire County Council kindly agreed to present the award at the ceremony in Elstree. The ceremony is held annually by the company to celebrate the outstanding achievements of members of staff. Sarah said “It was a real pleasure to meet so many dedicated and caring staff at the awards. Every story really showed how committed the nominees were to their work. I was particularly delighted to present the award to the grand champion for dementia and so impressed with their sensitivity and hard work to improve the lives of the people they work with.” Over two hundred staff and guests attended on the night. There was a James Bond theme to the evening, which was hosted by Quantum Care’s Director of Operations, Sam Cheekoory as the Not for Profit Bond. Following a champagne reception and three course dinner, there was an Oscar-style ceremony, where the winners of each category were presented with a trophy and certificate. All runners up were then presented with a bouquet of flowers. Throughout the presentation, there was a video story by one of the service users, who described her journey into care, and explained how much she appreciates the home she lives in, as well as the kindness and sincerity of all staff. There was hardly a dry eye in the house. Maria Ball, Chief Executive of Quantum Care said “It was a fantastic evening which was both moving and emotional. It was wonderful to hear the many examples of excellent care being delivered in our homes every day. As a Not for Profit organisation, we really can focus on ensuring that we are constantly investing in the quality of care and services. These care awards allow us to publicly thank those people who deliver that care, and also give us the opportunity to celebrate and share their achievements with family, friends and colleagues from Hertfordshire and beyond”. The company has 26 purpose built Care Homes across Hertfordshire, one home in Harlow, Essex, and one home in Luton. Some of these Homes also provide an operating base for other services, such as Enablement, Day Care and Intermediate Care. History Quantum Care was formed on the 1st July 1992 to operate Care Homes for older people in locations throughout Hertfordshire. It was one of the first companies created to operate Care Homes formerly owned and operated by a local authority. At its inception, Quantum Care took over the operation of 32 of Hertfordshire County Council’s Care Homes. Many of these Homes required substantial improvement in order for them to meet the standards of the Regulatory Authority. Quantum Care’s initial phase of development was to undertake a £30 million re-build and refurbishment programme, which was concluded in June 2001. In October 2005 Quantum Care opened its first Home in Essex, Tye Green Lodge. This marked the beginning of the next phase of development within the organisation.
