The aim of the Dining Club is to create a special occasion experience within our Homes that provides a restaurant service, atmosphere and meals within a safe and familiar environment. The clubs are designed so that residents can invite their family to share a special meal with them in their home. The dining area is dressed to give a restaurant experience with candles, special table decorations and background music. Guests are welcomed by a maître d, and provided with full waiter/ress service. The menu consists of a three course meal, with choices available for each course. All menus offer home- produced food throughout the service with as many seasonal dishes as possible. Soft drinks are provided, but guests are encouraged to bring in their favourite tipple to accompany the meal. Catering for the clubs is provided by the Support Services Department with assistance from the home’s catering team. Waiter/ress service is provided by volunteers from across the organisation, who are all attired in traditional black and white. The first Dining Club was held last week at Willow Court in Harpenden. Guests enjoyed a wonderful meal of the following:

  • French Onion Soup with Cheddar Rarebit Or Potted Trout with Home Made Toasted Bread
  • Chicken, Bacon and Leek Pie with Roast Potatoes, Swede and Carrot Mash, Sauteed Kale and Gravy Or Slow Roasted Pork with Roast Potatoes, Parsnip Mash, Braised Red Cabbage and Gravy
  • Vegetarian Choice: Oven Baked Spinach Filled Crepes topped with a rich Bechamel and a Tomato Sauce
  • Plum Crumble Tart, served with Custard Or White and Dark Chocolate Cheesecake, served with Chocolate Sauce
There were 27 people who enjoyed a meal together and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. One relative MM said of the night “I just wanted to say a big thank you from my mum, me and my sister in law for a lovely evening at Willow last night. The food and service was absolutely brilliant!  Well done all of you……can’t wait for the next Dining Club”. Due to the success of the Dining Club, there will be one of these events every month. The following list gives the dates and venues for each night. If you are interested in attending on of these evenings as a service user, family member, friend or volunteer, then please contact the home directly. Donna Steeden, Support Services Manager, said “I am really delighted with how the first Dining Club went. The feedback from residents, families and friends was brilliant. We are already looking forward to the next event, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the volunteers who gave up their time to make the event really special”.
