Stevenage MP marks the start of new Stevenage Care Home

On Monday 31st January the MP for Stevenage, performed a turf cutting ceremony to mark the commencement of a new care home for older people in Stevenage. The new home is a partnership project between Hertfordshire County Council and Quantum Care, and will replace the current Newhaven care home in Drakes Drive. The Care Home will be opening in the summer of 2012, and has been designed to care for older people with a variety of short and long term care needs. It is being constructed by GB Building Solutions Ltd and will have specially designed living spaces for people with dementia, as well as for those with physical disabilities. It has also been designed with the local community in mind, and will feature a Best Friends Cafe which will enable people within the home, as well as the local community to enjoy coffee and cakes with friends. The ceremony was also attended by senior representatives from Hertfordshire County Council and Quantum Care as well as staff and residents from the Newhaven care home. Maria Ball, Chief Executive of Quantum Care said "this is a really exciting project and we are really pleased to be working in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council to provide such a high standard of accommodation for older people in Stevenage". Richard Smith, Hertfordshire County Council's Executive Member for Adult Care and Health, said: "This is going to be an excellent development which will provide purpose-built facilities for older people with a variety of care needs. I look forward to the completion of the project so people can enjoy the new facilities."
