Watford Mayor visits Courtland Lodge

Residents, staff, and volunteers from Courtland Lodge care home were joined by Watford Mayor Peter Taylor and local Councillor Stephen Cavinder for their weekly coffee morning. The Mayor was visiting the home as part of his pledge to make Watford a Dementia Friendly Community and wanted to see how he could work with the home and Operator Quantum Care to further his campaign. He spent time chatting to the residents over a coffee before taking a tour of the building.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said “There are a growing number of people in Watford living with dementia, and the latest Alzheimer’s Society figures suggest that there are about a thousand people in our town who are living with the disease. It is good to be able to visit a service like Courtland Lodge and see the work they do. I’m really passionate about making sure Watford is a more dementia friendly town and am looking forward to working with Courtland  Lodge and other fantastic local groups to help make this happen.”

Debbie Gilard said “Initiatives like this are really important both for our residents and families and for our local communities. Having an appreciation of the challenges faced by people living with dementia can help everybody to make sure they are doing their best to positively support those with the disease. Everybody was so pleased to see the Mayor this morning and we are grateful to him for his work to make Watford a dementia friendly community”.
