A Day in the Life of a Quantum Care Home

Providing and encouraging activities for residents within a care home is an important aspect of day-to-day life. Along with providing for a resident’s care needs, encouraging them to participate in meaningful activities helps to sustain both their physical and mental wellbeing and can help them to maintain existing skills as well as develop new ones. Activities also encourage the development of positive relationships between the residents themselves and also with staff within the home. This is why we feel that it’s important for each of our homes to have a dedicated team of activity workers who plan and organise activities and who help residents to join in with them.

In a recent Facebook posting from Garden City Court, our care home in Letchworth Garden City, the activities team posed the question … “How was your day?” which they followed up with the list of things that the residents had got up to so far that day.

“We started with the perfect breakfast and then went out for some fresh air. When we came back we went to the salon for some pampering and to have our hair done. We then made some phone calls to friends and family and after that played some games including word searches which are always fun. Some of us re-lived our favourite football moments and team goals by watching replays from YouTube on a tablet computer. Others enjoyed some arts and crafts and at one point we even played a fun game of hide-and-seek. Now everyone is sitting down enjoying a nice glass of wine together. Happy Friday everyone!”

It’s just a little snapshot of one day in the life of the residents at the home and although no activity in particular might grab the headlines in this instance, these little things done daily and with variation, return very worthwhile benefits for the residents that we look after.
