Joan was surrounded by her family - daughter Lynne and granddaughters Claire and Jemma as well as staff from the home as she arrived. She was presented with a bouquet of flowers from Home Manager Vanessa Thaxter and then cut a ribbon. Joan is 85 years old and was born in London before she was evacuated to Luton during the First World War. She met her husband Derrick on a bus when they were both travelling to see a Luton Town Football Club away match. In her working life, Joan worked at Electrolux and Skefco, but her favourite job was when she was Head Cook at Lealands School in Luton. Joan’s granddaughters said that she has always been known for her fantastic puddings and would make them in the large school baking trays for all the family. Joan is also known for her love of dressing up at parties and her keen sense of humour; often playing jokes on her family and friends. We are delighted to welcome Joan into our new Home, and look forward to more arrivals over the coming weeks!
