Two of our colleagues represented Quantum Care at a distinguished evening reception at the House of Lords on Monday 17th November, held in support of the charity Music for my Mind. The event took place in the River Room and gathered a host of distinguished guests all united by a shared passion for improving the lives of those living with dementia through the power of music.
Debbie Gilard, Head of Corporate Services, and Coni Anang, Home Manager of Willow Court care home in Harpenden, attended the event on behalf of Quantum Care. During the evening, Coni delivered a powerful and emotional speech that highlighted the transformative effect music can have on people living with dementia.
Music for my Mind is a charity dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of people with dementia through personalised music. Research carried out in partnership within Quantum Care homes, has shown that tailored playlists can improve mood, calm anxiety, and help rebuild meaningful connections for those experiencing memory loss. Their work also demonstrates significant improvements in quality of life for individuals participating in personalised music programmes.
Quantum Care has been closely involved in supporting the charity’s innovative research into personalised music and its growing use as a form of therapy in dementia care settings.
Debbie Gilard said:
“It was an honour to attend this special evening and to be part of the incredible impact that personalised music is having on the lives of people living with dementia. We are proud to be part of this vital work.”
Coni Anang added:
“Music has the unique ability to reach people in ways that words alone cannot. Being able to share our experiences and see the emotional response in the room was deeply moving. It truly shows how powerful this work is.”
The House of Lords event underlines the increasing recognition of music as a meaningful and evidence-based intervention for people with dementia, and Quantum Care remains committed to championing its use across its homes.
