Local School Entertains Quantum Care Residents

Lemsford school children with care home residents

The residents arrived at the school in the morning and were treated to tea, coffee and delicious cakes whilst they waited for the performance to begin. The children then came into the hall in their colourful array of costumes to begin what was a lively, entertaining and enthusiastic performance of the musical written by Elton John and Tim Rice. After the crowd demanded a final encore, the children then spent time chatting with the residents before they left to go home.

The performance was part of a very long partnership between Welwyn Garden City – based Quantum Care and St John’s School. Over the last 10 years, the company’s care homes and the school have been involved in several collaborative projects including pen pal letters, choir performances and the annual school performance.

Debbie Gilard, Head of Corporate Services said “We were really pleased to be invited to the school for the performance of The Lion King. The children were absolutely fantastic and the residents enjoyed it so much. One resident who is in her 90s had grown up in a family of stage performers and said it brought back memories of a wonderful time in her life. We are so grateful to the school for inviting us and would like to thank the children, teachers and the PTA for a really lovely day out. The partnership we have with the school is so important to us, and is a really special way of bringing together the youngest and oldest in our local community.”

Michelle Boylan, Head Teacher of St John’s School said “'Having performed The Lion King for the school and parents the previous week, the children enjoyed sharing a special performance of their production with the residents of Quantum Care. We look forward to meeting with the residents of Quantum Care for other occasions in the new school year.'”
