As part of our commitment as a Community Benefit Society, and in partnership with Age UK Hertfordshire, we have launched “Operation Woolly Mammoth”, a large-scale community knitting project aimed at providing warmth and comfort to people in need this winter.

Across all our care homes, residents, staff, families, volunteers, and local community members are being invited to take part by knitting 20cm x 20cm squares of Double Knit wool, donating wool, teaching others to knit, or helping to sew the squares into full blankets (6 squares wide × 8 long). Each finished blanket will be donated to local charities, outreach teams, and other individuals in need.

Operation Woolly Mammoth supports wellbeing, purpose, and social connection among residents, while also giving back to the communities the organisation serves. Homes will track progress and take part in a friendly competition to see who can create the most squares, complete the most blankets, and involve the most community support.

Knitting is relaxing, meaningful, and social and through this project, every stitch directly helps someone facing hardship. Operation Woolly Mammoth allows our residents and teams to come together with local people to create something that makes a real difference during the coldest months of the year.

The project will run until the end of March 2026, with blankets being delivered as they are completed.
